Assistive Technology Specialist - NE England
Enabling people with physical and learning difficulties to use a computer for writing, drawing, leisure activities and exploring the Internet.
Technical support for all forms of assistive technology, software, hardware, system setup etc. Electronic repair of general and assistive technology.
Assessment/training: Exploring writing technologies, alternative computer access and leisure activities including Switch Access. I can provide a detailed equipment specification following assessments, setup the equipment on arrival and provide ongoing training and support as needed.
Software development: creating computer programs for individuals to match their ‘access method’ and learning abilities. Areas include literacy and numeracy, developing switch access and early mouse control. A major concern is to develop ‘age appropriate’ and exciting software. I continue to develop personalised software for individuals with profound physical, visual and learning difficulties.
Personal Profile: I have 26 years experience in the field of disability and computer access. In that time I have had the opportunity to work with local schools (e.g. Percy Hedley School, Beacon Hill School, Woodlawn School), private individuals and national organisations (Ace Centre-Oxford, Words Worldwide, Employment Service, Access to Work, Probation Service, DSS).
